DAY ONE: Monday, December 3rd *Learn how to use the Weebly site *Research Illinois Landscape using Scholastic Go! from DG Public Library *Identify major features of Illinois Landscape and find photographs of each *Read and understand different forms of poetry
DAY TWO: Tuesday, December 4th 1) Look at the Poetry Forms and Examples in your folder. Read about ACROSTIC Poems.
2) Read the packet of Acrostic Poems in your folder. Notice the descriptive language in each phrase.
3) Choose one of the photos you saved yesterday as inspiration for your Acrostic Poem. If you need to download a few more, use the directions I printed for you in your folder.
4) On one of the sheets of lined paper, put your name and ACROSTIC at the top, and attempt to write an acrostic poem about your Illinois landscape photo. Be as specific and detailed as you can in your descriptions!
DAY THREE: Thursday, December 6th 1) Look at the Poetry Forms and Examples in your folder. Read about HAIKU poems.
2) Read the packet of Haiku poems in your folder.
3) Choose a DIFFERENT photo than the one you used for your acrostic poem. If you need to download more photos, use the directions I printed for you in your folder.
4) On a NEW sheet of lined paper, put your name and HAIKU at the top, and attempt to write a haiku about your Illinois landscape photo. If you have time at the end of the rotation, pick another photo and write another haiku.
DAY FOUR: Friday, December 7th
1) Look at the Poetry Forms and Examples in your folder. Read about SHAPE poems.
2) Read the packet of Shape poems in your folder.
3) Choose a DIFFERENT photo than the ones you used for your acrostics and haikus.
4) On a NEW sheet of lined paper, put your name and SHAPE POEM at the top, and attempt to write a shape poem about your Illinois landscape photo. If you have time before the end of the rotation, pick another photo and write another shape poem.
DAY FIVE: Tuesday, December 11th
Today you will be looking at rhyming poems.
1) Read the packet of rhyming poems in your folder. Notice the different patterns in each poem--for example, does the 1st line of a stanza rhyme with the 3rd line? Does the 2nd line rhyme with the 4th? Notice the different lengths and details in each poem.
2) Choose a DIFFERENT photo than the ones you used for your other poems.
3) On a NEW sheet of lined paper, put your name and RHYMING POEM at the top, and attempt to write a rhyming poem about your Illinois landscape photo. Challenge yourself to write AT LEAST 3 STANZAS.
REMAINING DAYS: Publish your photos and poems on Explain Everything! Share with Ms. Coleman when finished.
